Purpose: Video games have changed people’s way of spending their leisure time in most countries. Children spend a lot of time playing video games, and violent ones are usually their first choice. There were many incidents that were closely related to playing violent video games. These ranged from beating deaths to shooting sprees and sniper shootings, and were not limited only to America. This study analyzes and compares the effects of violent video games on American and Chinese boys’ behavior.

Results: The data of this study showed that Chinese students spend more time playing video games than American students do; Chinese students play more M-rated video games than American participants do. In addition, American students get higher school grades than Chinese students, who also exhibit more aggressive behavior than American students do. In other words, students who spend more time on video game playing get lower school grades, and exhibit more aggressive behavior. The data also showed that the video game preference is influenced by the different cultures.
