ABSTRACT

As environmental concerns and energy consumption continue to increase, the United States must shift their scope of understanding Smart Grid concepts. In particular, New York State is altering the direction for its energy development and the purpose of this research, is to illustrate New York’s transformation into the benefits of embracing Smart Grid Technologies. Improving power grid stability, creating cleaner energy and recognizing how we consume energy has been New York’s focus since the widely known blackout of 2003. In addition, in researching Smart Grid technologies, interviews were conducted with eight people from various agencies that are stakeholders in New York’s energy development as well as document analysis of policies and projects. Lastly, research from this project confirms that implementing Smart Grid technologies in New York is beneficial and vital in creating an electricity supply that is more energy-efficient for the state.
