Education: Professor Sonenberg holds the following degrees: PhD from Columbia University, New York, NY; MS (Nursing) from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C.; BS (Nursing) Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY; BA (Biology/Neurobiology and Behavior) from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY.

Current Area of ResearchHealth policy related to the regulation of advanced nursing practice; global regulation and utilization of advanced practice nurses for the expansion of access to care to vulnerable populations.
 
Professional Experience: Professor Sonenberg joined the Lienhard School of Nursing, Pace University in 2008 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2013 with tenure.  She is teaches in the Masters and Doctor of Nursing Practice Programs.  The courses she has taught in are: Advanced Physical Assessment, Advanced Clinical Management (Women's Health content),  Advanced Nursing in Primary Health Care (MSN & DNP), Health Policy, and Decision Making in Nursing.  From 2009 to 2011 she practiced as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner in the University Health Care Unit at Pace University (Pleasantville).
                        
From 1999 to 2008 she was a clinical instructor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University, School of Physicians and Surgeons, with a clinical position practicing full-scope nurse-midwifery in the MIC-Columbia Women’s Health Services. Professor Sonenberg also held the position of Adjunct Faculty in the Graduate School of Nursing, Columbia University. She was a Nurse-Midwife at the Midwifery Group of the Hudson Valley in Cold Spring, NY; The Family Birth Midwifery Group in Peekskill, NY; and at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center Nurse-Midwifery Service in New York, NY. Dr. Sonenberg began her nursing career as a staff nurse in a high-risk antepartum unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD.
