In Ethics, Morality and the Media I learned that the main ethical concerns of the media are accuracy, fairness and responsibility, privacy, and truthfulness. Accurate information is crucial for the media to obtain. With the evolution of technology, social media platforms such as Facebook and twitter are the first to let people know about breaking news. Social media is great for being quick and easy to read headlines but since we put pressure on the media to give us information right now or as soon as it happens makes it really hard for journalist to obtain accurate information because they might not know the whole story yet.

Fairness and responsibility is about the sources reporters use to obtain information. Reporters need to be fair to their sources and keep their identity private if they wish to be. Privacy is a big concern for media, especially when it comes to celebrities and public figures. People do not legally have the right to privacy but they can obtain privacy in the way they live their life. Some people do not choose to be a public person they happen to fall into it but they have to take into consideration their occupation and lifestyle if they would like to maintain some parts of their life private and be willing to go out of their way to live like that. Truthfulness, this one is the simplest but I feel it is also the hardest to follow. Lies are never tolerated.

The issue that stuck with me most was obscenity and indecency because it is one thing to be indecent but to be obscene is very inappropriate. I think the idea of being obscene should be only every young persons mind because we all have a tendency to overact and we need to instill in our brains its ok to voice our opinions and act a certain way but to make other people feel uncomfortable when they are around you is obscene.

The current event that stood out to me the most was the Manti Teo hoax because I thought it was very realistic and this could of happened to anybody with a Facebook account if they are not careful. The media exposed a very personal and embarrassing incident of a public figure.

I thought the set up of the class was very educational. The discussions gave me an idea what other people were thinking and how the perceived a certain topic. The class also got a chance to learn what made people view something as being moral or unethical. This class not only with influence my future career as a TV host but it has also effected my daily life and constantly reminds me to pick the most ethically and morally right choice
