Celebrity Endorsement - Holly Madison

I chose Holly Madison for my celebrity. Holly Madison stared in E!’s The Girl’s Next Door which was a series that was based on Hugh Heffner’s three girlfriends. She eventually went on to have her own spin off called Holly’s World and a live burlesque show, Peepshow.

Madison has been active with doing charity work since she has gained fame. For the most part Madison does work for animals. One of the most known things Madison has done was pose for PETA’s “Id rather go naked” campaign. Madison posed as if it were a cover shoot for playboy since that is how she gained her fame.  Madison as also worked with the Animal Rescue Foundation.

I do think that Madison’s work with the PETA campaign brought attention to the issue. Madison was able to use her beauty and the connection to Playboy she has, as an ad. Unlike other celebrities who have done this campaign, Madison’s was set up to look like a cover of a playboy magazine, which brought attention to the ad. It also reached an audience that might not necessarily was up to date on animal cruelty and abuse. With the words “ I always fake it” on the ad, to show she doesn’t wear real fur but also relates back to her celebrity.

I also think that Madison’s choice to work with animals was a good one because everyone either has a pet or had or knows someone that had a pet and can relate to PETA’s message. The ARF is based on finding homes for companion animals and that will always affect someone because so many people do adopt animals out of shelters.

Government Shutdown

This week there is an issue where headlines are now reading “ the government is shutting down.” This is due to the current issue of ObamaCare and the fact that the political parties have not made an agreement on a budget. This is a large issue right now for the country because if the government does in fact shutdown, the people of this country will experience several issues that I do not think they will expect. Some jobs that would be affected would be the postal service, the military, and border patrol. These jobs will not be terminated but the workers will not be paid. As well as the national parks and monuments will closed. The House has made it clear that they will stop all funding for ObamaCare unless something is done to realize that it is costing too much money.

"We're going to continue to do everything we can to repeal the president's failed health care law," said House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. "The law is a train wreck."

In my opinion, I believe that the media is doing a good job with keeping the public up to date with information about this issue. The people need to know what is going on because if the government does shut down then the people will be affected by it in multiple ways

How Will The People Be Effected

 Trying To Avoid The Shutdown

Yes, this is what Obama “promised” when he was elected to office and unfortunately for him it isn’t working out the way it was planned. The law is costing America a lot of money and not having the benefits it should. I think the media needs to cover this issue even more because of the fact of the short amount of time until the government would in fact close down. So far I personally have been using CNN to see if there are any updates. This topic is being spoken about on twitter, mostly sharing articles and tweets from The White House and the President’s account.

One republican that is a strong voice about defunding Obama is Senator Cruz. He has been on twitter trying to express his view on the situation. This is a awkward situation because of the fact that the majority of democrats are obviously for obamacare and then even some republicans are now more for obamacare funding rather than the government shutting down as of October 1st. These are both two extremes and the fact that there is no middle option makes me nervous because the government should be able to reach an agreement instead of such drastic options.

In addition, I feel that even though the news is covering the issue, that the American people aren’t as aware of the issue. I think that the people need to be kept up to date about the possibility of this actually happening.

News Paper Assignment

I used the issue of the newspaper The New York Times from November 18th. There are seven main headlines on the front page but only a few that have to do with both domestic and foreign issues.

There are two major domestic issues and one foreign issue on the cover of the paper. The domestic issue headlines are “ Lesson Is Seen In Failed Law On Medicare” and “Cheney Sisters In Public Feud Over Marriage” and the foreign issue is “Typhoon Aid Slow to Reach Inland Towns”.

I would have expected more major issues to be on the front page of the NYT. The most important issue was to do with he Philippines but other than that nothing seemed to be as important to me. There were also other stories that I didn’t think fell under either category and were more just informational articles and not major issues.

The only foreign issue that was mentioned was the recent typhoon that affected the Philippines. One of the domestic issues was related to Medicare where the other was related to the Cheney sisters and a family feud that was publicly seen.

I think foreign issues were covered more due to being more relevant right now because of the disaster caused by the typhoon. I feel like that issue is more heartbreaking than something related to Medicare. The typhoon related article does have a picture on the front page where the other main headlines do not. I believe that having the picture this can sway the public’s opinion especially since the article is focused to be sad and is related to a heartbreaking disaster.

Quinnipiac Poll

Quinnipiac Polling Institute held a poll on September 19-22, 2013 to see how Governor Christie is doing in relation to State senator Barbara Buono.

It seems that based off of their results the public supports Christie over Buono.

I think that this poll did a good job touching all aspects that would matter when considering who you want to vote for. For example, the questions included who would be better for the states economy, property taxes as well as asking them if they know enough about the candidates to choose whether they think they would be good or bad.

This poll also covered the topic of Governor Christie possibly running for President in 2016. Multiple questions had to do with this topic and what the public thought about how it can affect them and the state of NJ and if it will affect the amount of votes he does get for Governor.

In my opinion being from NY, I hear governor Christie’s name a lot from the work he has done for the state of NJ and how he has been the face of the “stronger than the storm” campaign and did what he had to for NJ. Unfortunate for Buono, I feel like her name just isn’t well known enough.

This poll has a lot to do with the public because it is based off their public’s opinion of the candidate that they will have to decide who they will vote for and then who will win.

I also don’t think the sample size was large enough. The amount of people that were interviewed was 1249 and these were “likely” voters.

It does not mention which political party they are apart of.

The margin of error for this poll was +/- 2.8 Percent Points
