About Me
Hi my name is Abdul and am from Ghana, which is located in West Africa, along the coast. Ghana, formerly known as the Gold-Coast, is a small country about the size of Oregon, in the U.S. I like playing soccer, basketball, jogging, beach volley, tennis and swimming. I love education and will pursue it to the highest degree possible. Above all I love my mother land, Ghana, and I intend to go back someday to help the less fortunate.

On 04/03/2012, I took care of a 47 year old female patient who came in with severe headache. A lumbar punture was done to decrease intranial presseure.I was able to administer medications, start IV lines, performed patient discharge, neurological assessments, removed an indwelling urinary catheter and emptied a hemovac, which was draining sanguineous fluid from the lumbar region after a lumbar procedure.

On 03/20/2012 I took care of a 76 year old female admitted for urosepsis.I was able to function more independently although I was under the supervision of my preceptor. I passed medications, completed head to toe assessments, flushed and started IV lines, and performed Intra-Jugular dressing change. I really enjoyed my day and look forward to going back next week. I also had the chance to learn how to interpret EKG strips and calculate the PR, QRS, ST, RR intervals and detect abnormalities.

On 03/13/2012, took care of a 57 year old female patient admitted for severe athsma. I was able to administer medications, and toke report from the ER nurse for a newly admitted patient on our unit. I started IV lines and also had the opportunity to witness a code (Rapid response). During the code, I was one of the first people attend to the patient along side my preceptor and the assigned nurse, so I took the vital signs and gathered the supplies needed, which includes the EKG machine, pulse oxymetry and helped the nurse deliver the code cart to the patient's room. Fortunately the patient survived the chest pain and I was very excited about that.

On 02/21/2012, I took care of a 84 year old patient admitted for pneumonia. I was able to start numerous IVs including antibiotics (Vancomycin, and Gentamycin), potassium chlorides, normal saline, xosyn, and FFP. I also gave medications and subcutaneous injections using the insulin syringes and the insulin pens .It was a great learning experience and I am glad I was given the opportunity to learn as much as I can.
