Sybil Olmo

Hello,

My name is Sybil Olmo , and I'm currently in the Accelerated 1year BSN program at Pace University College of Health Professions, Lienhard School of Nursing in New York City. Prior to embarking on this journey, I was an established real estate professional for nine years, with a primary focus in property management. I have two degrees, one in Criminal Justice, and the other in Forensic Psychology.  

I currently have clinical experience at Mount Sinai Beth Israel Hospital, working with acute patients in the psychiatric ward, and also at Mount Sinai Hospital Queens working on a Med-Surg unit caring for elderly patients.

My short term goals consist of doing well in my classes, pulling through and successfully completing the Accelerated BSN program, in turn, going on to pass the NCLEX exam to become a registered nurse.

My long-term goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner, and go on to obtain my PhD. in nursing. Currently I am undecided in what field of practice I would like to focus in. I am leaning towards the OR, from a my experience shadowing a surgeon, while in the Mount Sinai program, in high school, or the ER, as I do well under pressure, the dialysis unit, as I have experience with my sister who has kidney failure, or perhaps the GI unit, as I have experience with gastrointestinal procedures and medications, as I have Crohn's disease. I would like to be involved in epidemiology research throughout the course of my professional career. From the age of 15, I have been actively informed of HIV/AIDS research, as well, volunteered with AIDS organizations, all as a result of caring for sick relatives.
