Catherine's ePortfolio
(4 pages)Reflections
Creating this ePortfolio has helped me reflect on what I want to do and where I am going, and how I am going to accomplish that/get there. My name is Catherine Weening, and I am currently a graduate student here at Pace, where I study Publishing. I received my BA in English at Pace and was a student in the Honors College. Now I go to school part time and I'm a Production Editor at Scholastic.
It sounds cliché, but I have always been a reader. I'm not sure where it started or with whom (Dr. Seuss? Harry Potter? Clifford?), but it started as a child, and books helped transport me from my small, New Jersey town to huge cities and remote villages alike. They offered me a chance to dream bigger and to aim higher. Books and stories made my world wider and gave me a chance to walk a mile in someone else's shoes.
As you can see in my Professional Preparation page, I work in children's book publishing so I can contribute to an industry that encourages empathy, grows acceptance, and strives, particularly in recent years, to offer as many diverse stories as possible. I want to help change lives, and through my other ePortfolio pages--such as my Co-Curricular/Extra Curricular page--I have tried my best to demonstrate this.
I want my ePortfolio to represent who I am as a student, professional, and person, while also showing that those three roles are all the same Catherine, one who wants to work hard to make this world a better place.
