Along with the Sarbanes- Oxley, Certified Fraud Examiners also play a role in helping to gain the trust of the public by fighting to deter white collar crime, which gives the investing and lending public more confidence in accountants.
Digital Story- Refelctive Blog RSS
At the beginning of the semester when I was told that we would have to create a "digital story" using the information from our essay, I was a bit intimidated. However, after the whole process of creating my digital story, I felt truly accomplished. Since Courtney and I had similar topics, we decided to collaborate together and make one digital story; working with a partner was a great experience. In analyzing both of our essays and coming up with a script for our video, I learned more about the topic of ethics in Accounting and also more about the Enron scandal. When we finally came up with a script, Courtney and I began to find pictures that would correspond with the topics that we mentioned in our script. We also wanted background music that will capture our audience so we decided to use the theme song from “Law and Order". Overall, I truly enjoyed creating this digital story and I think we did a great job. I believe creating digital stories are a fun way to learn more about a topic and express oneself in a different way other than writing.

Final Reflection
So far, from taking English 201, I have learned to truly appreciate writing. Many times I would see research papers as a burden rather than something that I genuinely enjoyed doing and learning about. I can testify and say that in this course, I became very interested in my topic, which made the process of researching fun rather than boring. My interest in the topics we discussed throughout the course has led to accomplish many things. I was able to summarize and reflect on articles from the New York Times that bought to my attention many issues that are currently going on in the world. I have learned to be the driver of a source, rather that the source being the one to drive me. I have learned to make connections and synthesize sources. As a writer I have also learned that revising is just as important as any other part of the research process. The feedback that I received from my peers and my professor, help me tremendously when it came to revising my paper. Many times they would notice things that I wouldn’t, such as grammatical errors and my use of sentence structure. Each time that I would receive feedback on my paper, it helped me to reanalyze my paper and think of ways in which I could improve the quality of my writing. I would say that what has changed most about my writing is the way that I use sources in my paper. I have learned to look for sources that are credible and integrate them into my paper in a way that seems logical and analytical. One of my research strategies were to look within a source or at the works cited of that source, and see if it would lead me to another source; which in fact I did for many of my most important sources. My E-portfolio demonstrates my journey through writing; it is like the metamorphosis of a butterfly. It has not been the easiest journey, but in the end it was rewarding and it has changed me. As a writer my future hopes are to inspire people to see that writing can be something fun and exciting, that it can change the way you think, the way you express yourself, and the way you view the world.
Midterm Reflection
Before taking English201: Writing in the Disciplines, I never believed myself to be a strong writer, or someone who actually enjoyed reading. However, this course has changed that for me. In writing essays and reading articles that captivate my attention, I am drawn in to the topic at hand and it makes me want to learn more. I love the fact that throughout the span of this course we have talked and read various current articles that we may sometimes overlook. We have spoken about learning to have empathy, explored the use of creativity, analyzed about the differences in communication between men and woman, and many other topics. I can admit that before this course, I had no interest in reading the New York Times, but now I even have a New York Times app on my iPhone; I navigate through the internet every other day and read something interesting. The process of summarizing and reflecting upon so many different articles has helped me tremendously when it comes to writing papers. Summarizing, synthesizing and reflection on articles has become a must whenever I am integrating a source into my paper. These are one of the strategies that I have used; I now make sure that I am being the driver of the source. I have also learned to use new research strategies. After revising my paper with Professor Anstendig, I felt like I had gotten great feedback and I began to look for more articles that serve as examples to help me prove my point. As I was searching for articles about accounting fraud, I came upon on article and within that article I found a direct quote from a woman who is a CFE. When I googled this woman's name, I found that she had an entire blog dedicated to fraud examination. While I was on her blog, I was so intrigued by all the interesting articles and began to read up on so many different topics pertaining to the field of forensic accounting. This blog site helped me with one of my biggest problems, which was not having enough examples. For my next paper, my goal is to provide even more examples, get rid of unnecessary wordiness and continuer revising. Also, I hope that this research experience will help me grow as an individual and as a writer.
Essay #1- Reflective Assignment
In writing my essay I have accomplished many things. First of all, I learned to narrow my focus to a specific topic and only focus on the topic at hand. This is usually a problem for me because many times I find that my topics are very broad. Second, I learned many things that I did not know before my research. In researching about forensic accounting, I decided to narrow my topic to a certain type of fraud, occupational fraud. However, what I did not know, but learned after research, was that forensic accounting is a specific branch in accounting. Forensic accountants deal with no fraudulent and fraudulent cases, meaning that not all of their cases have to do with fraud. Under forensic accounting, there are Certified Fraud Examiners, who are the ones that only deal with finding fraud and many times occupational fraud. Since I learned this, I decided to focus on the types of occupational fraud, which Certified Fraud Examiners are confronted with the most.
With that being said, I think that my research question is very effective because it is specific and narrow. Although I have done some research, I am continuing to find specific recent cases that have to do with the types of occupational fraud referred to in my essay. Since I have started my essay I have done a lot of revision, especially because I have never used APA format in a paper. At first, APA seems a little confusing, but after seeking help and referring to websites posted on the Pace Library home page, I got the hang of it and became confortable with it. I completed my essay with 4 sources that were very helpful and certainly very credible. The most helpful source was an annual report form the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners on occupational fraud. It provided me with much statistical evidence about specific frauds.
All in all, I feel that I learned a lot writing this essay and that this paper has helped me develop my skills as a writer.
How I see myself as a Researcher/Writer
Though I am not very tech-savvy, I have gained great research background skills and I am very good at finding credible sources through the library database and other websites. I feel that this will help me when writing my essays. Although I always find great sources, many times I overwhelm myself with too many and it becomes hard for me to narrow down my topic and organize my paper. This is one of the reasons I find writing very challenging. Writing to me is like learning to ride a bike. It requires a lot of practice, and you may get it wrong many times before you get it right, but when you do it is rewarding.
