It is imperative that we encourage the development of the intellectual capacity of the next generation of leaders with critical thinking skills. One such strategy to achieve this mandate is through higher education, however, there is concern within higher education over the quality of education, and where to place the blame; that is, on student disinterest in learning and reading, or on faculty who are not attuned to student’s learning styles. This case study attempts to address both issues by conducting an experiment in pedagogy. The study involved introducing technology, namely a geographical information system (GIS—Google maps) to track global terrorism. This proved successful not only in motivating student interest, but also in revealing that faculty can develop new and innovative pedagogical strategies. This case study offers insight on how this experience can potentially be an effective strategy to enhance the learning environment for the next generation of leaders.
