Skills/Compentencies
• Assist with feeding, bathing, toileting, ambulating, range of motion, turning and positioning, etc.
• Perform physical assessments
• Obtain vital signs, blood sugar levels, etc.
• Measure intake and outputs and drainage from illeostomies, colostomies, JP drains, etc.
• Prepare and administer PO, IM, SQ, and IV medications
• Perform wound care and dressing changes
• Flush PICC lines and NG tubes using NS
• Administering feedings and medications via PEG and NG tubes
• Administer enemas and suppositories
• Perform intermittent catheterization and bladder scans
• Suction via a tracheostomy
• Obtain urine cultures via catherization
• Obtain blood cultures via PICC lines
• Perform post-mortem care
• Promote patient safety and client advocacy
• Proper documentation
• Implement infection control measures
• Educate patients and families (nurtition, patient condition, procedures, etc.)
Clinical Reflection
During my time as a Pace nursing student, I was fortunate to have had my clinical rotations at many different sites, allowing me to observe various styles of nursing and incoporate several techniques into my own practice. Each clinical rotation has advanced my knowledge and improved my nursing skills. I have learned how to give high quality, patient-centered care, while collaborating with the health care team and promoting patient safety. I will take the competencies I have gained throughout my experiences with me and integrate them into the care that I give to patients.
