Goals

At the beginning of my college career I had three simple goals:

To be successful and happy l my chosen career

Lead a life that my family and I can be proud of

To give my possible future children the life and opportunities their great grandparents, grandparents, and parents never had

Now in the final year of my undergraduate studies I still have these goals in mind. However, the further I progressed in my college career the more my goals became more focused and precise. I recognized that while having a general idea of what I want is great, I needed a well thought out plan to ensure a successful future. To do this, I broke my plan down into short and long term goals.

As of now my short term goals are to:

Complete my undergraduate degree

Search for internship opportunities that correspond with the field of Communications

Save money so I can pay my student loans

Save money so that I have funds for when I graduate to begin my professional and adult life

My long term goals are:

Complete my graduate degree

Search for a internship opportunities that correspond with the field of Communications

Upon graduating from graduate school look for and attain a job in the radio or television industry either in broadcast news or programming

Once I ascertain employment I will begin to save funds in order to move closer to the New York City metropolitan area

Begin my career in Media and Communications

Overall Reflections

Before I took on the task of building my e-Porfolio I did could not see the value that this forum provides. This compounded by the fact that I had not logged into my e-Portfolio in two years. When I began my first graduate course my classmates and I were instructed to develop our e-Portfolios. Initially I thought great, another long and arduous project for me to address. It wasn't until e-Portfolio was explained to us in class that I realized what a great tool it is.

Upon learning that e-Portfolio could serve as a valuable instrument in helping burgeon my professional career was the moment I knew that I must work on mine. In class, Dr. Pulaski recited multiple stories in which employers where looking at Pace students for internship and job opportunities and were amazed when made aware of their ability to view a students e-Portfolio. Employers were impressed and excited to to know that Pace students had a forum to showcase their work and themselves as professional. This ultimately swayed some employers to give Pace students an opportunity they may have otherwise not agreed to. e-Portfolio allows students to strike the perfect balance a professional online environment while simultaneously having the casualness of social media which I found great. With this knowledge in hand, I set out to complete my e-Portfolio.

When I began the process of constructing my e-Portfolio I didn't know where to start. To get my mind working I thought of my two favorite subjects, History and English. In going through my English writings I discovered my evolution as a writer. I learned how critical English has been to the success of my college career as I learned how to write adeptly. I felt it necessary to have an English portfolio because it displayed my ability and growth as a writer. It shows that I am capable of writing in may different forms. I found it fitting to create a History portfolio due to my passion for the subject. A passion that ultimately brought me to the decision to minor in History. With these portfolios completed I turned my focus toward creating a portfolio for my area of study, Media and Communications.

During my time at Pace, I have taken a number of Media and Communications courses required to complete my major. As a result, I realized I needed to a create a portfolio to showcase my work. These courses were key elements in my decision to pursue a career in the field of communications. The faculty are dedicated leading experts in their respective disciplines whose mentoring and guidance have enhanced my academic experience and have opened the doors to unlimited opportunities. The internship at Hooplaha further augmented many skills already learned in the classroom setting. The diversified and welcoming Pace community has promoted a environment conducive to great learning, growing and acceptance.

Creating my e-Portfolio was a journey of self discovery and I am proud of the end result. As I reviewed my e-Portfolio I saw my growth as a writer, student and professional. The process was challenging as I endeavored to create an e-Portfolio representative of my talents, achievements but most of all the accomplished individual I have become.
