Lesson Plan for Glogster

This is a lesson where the students had to design a Glog for an Italian class. They had to include an Italian recipe, the ingredients, some music and pictures, and write up instructions for making the recipe, all in Italian.

Glogs

This was done in two stages. For the first part, the students had to research the materials they needed for their Glog and save it in a folder, along with citations.

The second phase, the students came to lab and created the glog, inserting the materials.

It was a good lesson on planning because invariably students would forget their passwords, or their files or something else, and as 9th graders, they had to learn to be responsible for their work in a timely fashion.

When planning the lesson, I used the UbD lesson plan. This helped me establish the big idea, and plan the lesson in minute details. Here is the lesson plan and the rubric for the Glogster class.

Glogster Reflection

There are four classes and each class responded differently. In the first class I could not sign on because I could not read my password which is a combination of numbers and letters, and I had read “z” instead of a “2”, it was a good learning moment, for me and the students.

In the next class I was trying to show students how to get into the site and create a Glog, but as I had already created a glog in the first class, the site would not let me create another starter Glog with the Italian template and I had to create a glog in another section, which was not ideal.

After that class, I had to go back and delete my trial glog so I could recreate it with the template. The last two classes went relatively smoothly.

I revised the handouts as I felt they did not have enough detail and as the first introduction class came before the break and the hands-on class after the break.

One big issue is students and how they manage their passwords. You can tell them to save them but when students come back to the lab, they can’t find the passwords, or they did not bring the document that has the password.  This is an ongoing problem. However as I am pushing into the class it is difficult for me to manage the issue, as I see them infrequently. We should probably let the students change their password to the school password so they do not forget them. I shall explore this further into my student teaching.
