Here is the procedure that I wrote out to benefit the tax department at NYSE. When I arrived in May, I viewed non income filing as a daunting process which seemed confusing. My goal was to master the process, and make it easy for the next intern who would be taking my position. So- I mastered the process and wrote it all down in a detailed manner. When I taught Joanne how to do non income, she grasped the concept right away and had this valuable resource to refer to! I led her to a file of documents like these which will be passed down to each intern as they begin working.

Co-Worker Recommendation

"Megan's best quality is that she is always willing to help out when she is needed most. The word "NO" is non existant in her vocabulary and that is why she excels at work.  Her positive attitude and her ability to take life by the horns will always serve her right. I stay corrected when I say that she will always and forever more be an examplar employee wherever she goes. You will be missed here at the New York Stock Exchange Megan Burke."

Women in Tax Roundtable

I participated in a monthly call to discuss womens issues in the workplace. This opened my eyes to different topics like work life balance and gave me interaction with well respected women in the tax profession.

Lessons Learned:

  • create your own path (learn from other people's successes and mistakes)
  • always have a positive attitude
  • face your fears
  • understand people
  • set the tone with confidence

Co-Worker Recommendation

“I had the pleasure to work with Megan during her internship at the New York Stock Exchange. In observing her work I noticed her progress among the others interns and how quickly she was able to adapt through challenging assignments.

Her ability to work well with others enabled a cooperative environment among the members of her department. This translated into efficient work progress and accurate filings of tax returns.

I am certain that Megan will thrive in her new venture and future career.”
