Fortune Magazine included KPMG in its 100 Best Companies to Work for list!
This three day program was packed with positive experiences such as visiting a client site, speaking to dozens of audit and tax professionals, and networking with other young professionals like myself. The experience helped me understand the difference between tax and audit. I was able to analyze the positives and negatives of each discipline and came to the conclusion that I would be happy in either place. I admit, it was a tough decision, and I am still a little unsure. I took a tax class and have yet to take audit, which makes the decision even more difficult. Ultimately, after weighing the pros and cons, I decided to try audit. Since I currently have a tax internship, I know that an audit internship will make me a well-rounded accounting professional.
Visiting the client site gave me an idea of what auditors do every day. I traveled to the client and spoke with the KPMG professionals who were currently working at the site. They introduced me to their team, showed me the programs that they use, and answered all of my questions.
Networking with KPMG professionals and other students like me benefited me and built my confidence. The fact that the tax partner wrote “best out of all four” on my resume boosted my confidence in my resume and interviewing skills. The advice that I received was invaluable and I know that I got the full benefit from this experience.
Completing community service as a team brought us together and built even stronger relationships. I believe in the value of teams, especially ones that work together well! Team building activities are a great tool to strengthen the communication between members and develop stronger relationships. We worked as teams to build bikes for military families. The bikes were donated to the families through the USO (United Service Organizations.)
Overall, I benefited from the program. I was thankful for the opportunity and made life long friends!
