Girl Scouts & Kappa Delta Sorority Background

I have been involved in Girl Scouts since Kindergarten and gained the status of Girl Scouts for life.  Throughout my time in Girl Scouts growing up, I have had the privilege to grow as a person, participate in community service, explore possible career paths and know what it is to earn something as opposed to having it given to me.  Some of the biggest takeaways from Girl Scouts are learning the value of team work and taking valuable skills with you for future endeavors.

In September of 2014, I joined Kappa Delta Sorority at the Pace University New York City Campus.  I am happy that I had the confidence to go out for Kappa Delta in the beginning of my Sophomore year, because it changed my life so much, and for the better. Our organization is focused on confidence and leadership for women.  We are also affiliated with Girl Scouts of the USA and coordinate events with local troops in the area.

I am proud to say that I have my own personal connection with Kappa Delta and Girl Scouts, being that I was a Girl Scout from Kindergarten to Senior Year of High School.  Not many can say they committed to this organization the whole way through.  I can say, that I gained life long friends through Girl Scouts, as well as, Kappa Delta Sorority.

By the end of my Junior Year in high school, I earned my Silver Award pictured above.  This is a great accomplishment during my time in Girl Scouts, and it is currently the second highest award you can earn from Girl Scouts of the USA. This award documents that I have dedicated my time to a cause that is close to my heart and fulfilled the hours necessary to get the award. I currently have this award on my wall to remind me that you are never too young or too old to help people in your community, no matter how small or how big the task is.  Girl Scouts has 100% prepared me for my future endeavors, and being a part of Kappa Delta Sorority solidified this as well.

I am proud to say that both organizations have helped me grow as a person.  I am now a Kappa Delta Alumna & a Lifetime Member of Girl Scouts of the USA.

Reflection

Over the course of the semester, I spent time every week creating a section of my online portfolio.  I never realized how useful E-Portfolio could be, and I definitely regret not making use of this tool during my Undergraduate years at Pace University’s New York City Campus.  E-Portfolio is a useful tool for Graduate students who are in need of a portfolio or a place to store their work while they are creating their own individual portfolios.  This portfolio will definitely benefit my career considering I am going into Public Relations and Social Media. This portfolio is a great way for me to showcase my visual creativity, as well as, writing samples.

While creating my portfolio, I did have some frustration with figuring out what exactly to put on my pages.  I found myself comparing my portfolios to others, and feeling as if I did not have enough information.  However, after a long time of tweaking the pages and figuring out what aspects of my life and career I wanted to highlight, I was able to create a brand for myself and showcase my best self.

Although I did have some frustration creating the portfolio itself, once I was comfortable adding my information onto each page, I was able to organize my pages in a way that is eye catching. After looking through my portfolio, I am happy with the way it came out and I realized that I had plenty of class material, extracurricular activities and work experience to highlight.

I highly recommend using E-Portfolio as a Graduate student!
